2022 Basketball Players Code of Conduct
Our program is to inspire the youth of the Bunn area to participate in Basketball, to practice the ideals of sportsmanship regardless of race, color, sex, creed or national origin, and to bring them together through the means of a common physical fitness and athletic competition. We are to provide a program where they receive instruction in the fundamental skills of football and Cheer. The mission is to enable children to benefit from participation in team sports and activities in a safe and structured environment. Through this active participation, we will teach fundamental values, skills and knowledge that children will use throughout their lives.
BUNN YOUTH SPORTS PLAYERS CODE OF CONDUCT
PREAMBLE- The essential elements of character building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Good Citizenship.
1 - I choose to participate in this sport because I am interested in learning the game and to have fun. I promise to follow the rules and guidelines listed below:
2 - I will listen to my coach and assistant coaches and follow their directions.
3 - I will abide by an officials (The Umpires/Referees) decision
4 - I will not discuss an official’s decision with the official. This will be done at the discretion of the coach, by the coach. If the officials decline a discussion with the coach, I will accept the official’s decision and proceed with play. I will not harass the officials by commenting on calls or other equipment or making gestures of dissent.
5 - I will not engage in rough tactics against another person, player, coaches, officials, and any BYS member.
6 - I will not use profane or vulgar language at any time to anyone.
7 - I will not lay a hand on, push, hit, and threaten to strike, spit at or physically attack an official, player, coach, or BYS Member at any time.
8 - I will display good sportsmanship and will not boo, tease, refuse to shake hands or discourage other players. I will clap and cheer respectfully to encourage players and I will keep quiet if I don't have something nice to say.
9 - During competition, I will remain with my team and not wander with my friends and family. It is important for me to focus on the game and ensure my safety.
10 - I will do my best at every competition and know that it's OK to make mistakes. That’s how we learn.
11 - If I disobey the rules as listed above I will receive the following consequences:
Warning: I will accept this as my first warning.
1st Offense: I will be asked to leave the premises and will have counseling with my coach, parent, League Ambassador, and BYA Board
2nd Offense: The police may be called to intervene (Resulting in indefinite suspension from the premises)
If I am ejected from a game, I may face indefinite suspension from participation: I may only be permitted to return to participation or to the premises after my parents and I meet with the BYA Board of Directors. After meeting with the BYA Board of Directors, the Board will decide if I can return to participation immediately or face further suspension. In some extreme cases, I may be suspended for the rest of the season.
